The concept of unity in sports betting is widely used by professional betting companies. But then what does it correspond to? And why do many tipsters and betters speak only in units and not in real money? Also discover the number of units that it is recommended to place on a bet.
What is a sports betting unit?
The term « Unit » (or « u ») is a universal measurement system that allows you to quantify your bets placed on each bet as well as your gains and losses.
You've all certainly seen a better put X units on a bet. That means he'll bet a very specific percentage of his bankroll.
In general, 1u = 1% of your sports betting capital. If a tipster has a bankroll of 1000€ And that he's putting a unit on a bet, that means he's going to play 1% of his capital, or 10€ then.
But this is not always true. It depends on the tipster you follow or on your own way of betting. You can very well assign 5% of your bankroll for 1 unit played. You decide!
Most importantly, always keep the same % of your capital for so many units bet in order to be as rigorous as possible.
Why do so many bettors express their units?
There are several reasons for this. First of all, we do not all have the same capital/bankroll dedicated to our sports betting. Expressing its bets, gains and losses in « Units » thus allows to include and gather everyone around one and the same measurement system.
For example, a tipster, which has a bankroll of 1000€, will bet 3u = 3% of its capital on a bet, that is 30€. However, if you have a capital of 100€, you will only bet 3€ (3% of your bankroll). In the end, with the measurement system in « Units », you have played exactly the same number of units (without having to bet the same amount of real money).
In the same way, reasoning in terms of units allows Effective performance measurement actual betting without introducing the concept of money which can be misleading in sports bets. Too often, you see bettors boasting about having made large sums of money but do you know the amount of their bankroll? Most of the time, the answer is negative...
Take a simple example:
- A tipster has set 1000€ (i.e. 1u) on each bet and ends the season with 2000€ profits. Perfect, he won two units.
- A tipster B bets 10€ (i.e. 1u) on each bet and pocket at the end of the season 200€ profit. He won a total of 20 units.
Conclusion, the tipster B has been much better than the tipster A all season, despite a much smaller profit. The tipster B is a much better bet.
Thanks to this example, one may well realize that the notion of money does not mean much when you follow one or more tipsters. Think about this the next time you see a better talking about the amount of its profits (often exorbitant).
How many units is recommended to wager?
The experts (confirmed bettors) recommend never exceed 5 units, or 5% of your bet capital. It is advisable to choose between 1 and 5 bet units. Thus, by betting maximum 5u each time, you must lose a good number of bets afterwards before your bankroll disappears completely. This is a more cautious strategy and is therefore strongly recommended.
For our part, we advise you never to exceed 10% of your bankroll by bet. So you can bet up to 10 units but not one more. The risk would be too high and you could lose your sports betting capital very quickly.
To put between 9 and 10 units would be to say that you estimate at least 90% the chances of seeing your winning bet. Between 7 and 8, at least 70%... Between 5 and 6, at least 50%, etc.
This implies that all member statistics (tipsters) had to be reset to zero. But don't panic, know he's always possible to access the old stats So your good (or bad) performance is not lost.
This change of betting system seems indispensable to us in order to best meet the expectations of our tipsters and bring out the best bettors (without necessarily talking about money).
